Recycle all your unwanted packaging

If you’ve ever bought a brand new computer from a local superstore, or perhaps a top of the range television, you’ll know it often comes in a huge cardboard box. And this in turn contains several smaller boxes as well as a range of little plastic bags to hold all the accessories.
All this packaging needs to be disposed of responsibly, so make a special trip to your local waste site and be sure to recycle all of it. That way, you can be kinder to the environment, and ensure your children have a future on this planet, too.

If you’re stuck for a birthday present idea, why not help the planet?

These days, a gift doesn’t have to cost the earth – in more ways than one. It’s becoming easier to come up with a birthday present idea that’s fairly inexpensive, and that benefits the environment as well.

For example, many charities and other ecologically minded organisations sell gifts that do some good somewhere in the world. Your gift money might provide running water in a remote village, for example, or plant new trees in a sustainable forest to help preserve our carbon dioxide absorbing friends. A little online searching through charity websites and other environmental organisations is bound to uncover the perfect gift for your favourite eco-warrior!

Geothermal power – energy from the earth

While solar energy and wind power might grab the majority of the headlines when it comes to sustainable energy, geothermal power is often overlooked by scientists and environmentalists alike.

Geothermal activity has been harnessed by humans for centuries, with the ancient Romans utilising heat from the earth to warm their homes. This renewable energy source is cost-effective, reliable and sustainable, but its use has generally been limited only to areas around the edges of tectonic plates.

Still, as technology advances we can expect to see a greater shift towards geothermal power as it becomes even more commercially viable and so more attractive to energy companies.
