Why energy matters when you’re looking for flats to rent
Energy consumption is something we all need to think about these days, and it’s an important consideration when looking for flats to rent. It might affect how much the bills are for your new home, for example, if the flat isn’t very energy efficient.
Some good examples of eco-friendly techniques in the home are using energy saving lightbulbs, or working out a timetable that uses your central heating or storage heaters when the cost of electricity is lower – usually overnight. And of course you’ll save money if you look for an energy efficient flat in the first place, with good insulation and double glazing, because you can’t do anything about it yourself in a rented property. Add ‘energy efficient’ to your wishlist when flat hunting, and you’ll save money (and the planet) in the long run!

Wind turbines – the future for sustainable power?
Wind turbines are springing up all over the UK at the moment. With each new wind farm that is proposed, however, a storm of protest usually erupts from people who fear that the development will ruin the natural beauty of the landscape it is set in.
I can’t understand people who are against wind turbines. We need to start focussing our efforts on sustainable power generation and away from fossil fuels as soon as possible. Fossil fuels are going to run out in the not-too-distant future, and we need to have alternatives in place if we are to continue using power in the manner we have become accustomed to. Otherwise we will leave a terrible legacy to future generations which they will have to deal with as best they can.
