Looking for a job in IT…

I’m looking for a new job in IT again. The only trouble is, I’m not alone – thanks to the recession, there are loads of newly-redundant IT workers out there all fighting over the same jobs. And quite a few of them are more experienced and better qualified than I am…

Yes, times are hard in the IT sector at the moment. With too much competition for too few jobs, I’m really glad that I’m in employment at the moment, even if I do want to move on sooner rather than later. I’m sure things will pick up again eventually – people are always going to need computers, after all – but for the time being I might be as well staying where I am.

IT jobs to be axed by planned BBC website cuts

The BBC has just announced a set of swingeing cuts which are bound to see a number of IT jobs being axed in the organisation in the months and years to come. The are planning to half the size of their website in the next two years. I don’t see the point in this. The BBC’s website is one of the largest and mostĀ prestigiousĀ in the world – why would they want to slim it down when one of its great benefits is its size?

Even worse, they’re planning on closing down 6 Music, which is currently by far the best radio station in the UK. There is a Save 6 Music petition online that you can sign to show your opposition to these plans – please do if you are a fan of the station.

Compare 0% credit cards – getting the best deal

I’m thinking of getting a new computer, so I’m currently trying to compare 0% credit cards online to see where I can get the best deal. I don’t have a credit card at the moment, but it’s been pretty easy to find good deals thank to online credit card comparison sites.

The plan is to buy the new machine on the credit card so I get the statutory guarantee from the credit card company on the purchase. Then I’ll pay off the cost of the computer over the 0% interest period, which should mean that I get a really good deal. Then once it’s paid off, I’ll simply cancel the card and walk away. That’s the plan, anyway…
